Marblehead Road Race Series resumes in Oct. 1

The town's Road Race Series is set to restart on Oct. 1, featuring four running and walking events slated to run through Nov. 5. The series, reintroduced this year by a coalition of race organizers, seeks to cultivate community among the local running and walking enthusiasts. Participants who finish four of the six series races will earn a hooded sweatshirt. For those who have already completed the first two races, taking part in just two of the next four will make them eligible. Though there's no series fee, individual races may have their own registration costs. Corinthian Yacht Club places second in the Rolex International Invitational Cup

Nineteen teams from 14 countries competed in the eighth Rolex New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup, a biennial regatta hosted by the New York Yacht Club in Newport, Rhode Island. Marblehead’s Corinthian Yacht Club, a first-time participant in this invitational, placed second with 54 points. Since the event was first run in 2009, it has attracted top amateur sailors from 51 of the world's most prestigious yacht clubs from 22 countries. The San Diego Yacht Club won the Rolex New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup delivering aconsistently strong performance over the week with a score of 43 points overall. After hearing from several disappointed residents, town officials adjusted their plans to use $1.4 million in federal COVID-19 relief money to reconstruct two aging bridges along the Marblehead Rail Trail. The Marblehead Museum and Discover Marblehead and hosting a fundraising event called "September Soiree: End of Summer Speakeasy" at the Lee Mansion Gardens on Saturday, Sept., 9, 6-10 p.m. Photos of last year's soiree by Rick Dodge. The party kicks off with the jazz duo the Rubin Brothers, 1920s-themed cocktails, a full bar and food. Snap a pic in the photo booth and win prizes from the balloon pop. Cop Camp: Police offer CSI course for young aspiring officers

The Marblehead Police Department is running a Crime Scene Investigation course for kids in grades 5-7, August 23-25, led by Chief Dennis King and School Resource Officer Sean Sweeney. Participants will learn police techniques like fingerprinting, evidence collection and how to write an investigative report. Kids will receive a June Crime Scene Investigator certificate. "We have the Essex County Sheriff's Depatment K9 coming in for a demonstration on the Thursday as well," King told the Current. The program will take place outdoors and feature a modified police recruit obstacle course.
