Some good news as we head into the weekend. Harbormaster Mark Souza tells us the temporary dock at Crocker Park will be ready for swimmers sometime after 9 a.m. Saturday morning.
The temporary dock was donated by Mid-Harbor Mooring and Launch Services.
On Thursday, Souza and his deputy, Craig Smith, added floatation, attachment points for the gangway and chain/metal work for the mooring process. Friday morning, Ned Foster from Mid-Harbor and Dions Yacht Yard launched the float and Foster towed the float over from Salem to it location at Crocker Park.
“The floor is installed,” Souza told the Current. “Last piece to this puzzle is getting the gangway put in place. That will be a service donated by Dave Haley’s company Marblehead Marine Construction. His employee Rob Healy along with Ben Willard of Willard and Sons Moorings offered to donate their time installing it. “
The original dock was damaged in a rainstorm in July and removed. Souza said he has determined it is beyond repair.
The temporary dock will stay in the water “as long as the weather will let us,” Souza added. “Let hope for an extended summer.”
