Festival of Arts races bring fast times, hometown finishes

Marblehead runners turned in several standout performances Saturday during the Festival of Arts road races, with local competitors claiming top finishes in the Fun Run, 5K and 10K events. In the Mile Fun Run, 10-year-old Reid Gage of Marblehead was the overall men's winner, crossing the finish line in 7 minutes, 34 seconds. Author returns to festival, 30 years after early work won award

In 1997, Steven M. Rubin submitted one chapter of his then work-in-progress novel, “The Unraveling of Michael Galler” to the Marblehead Arts Festival and won Best of Show.  Now, 30 years later, he has finished — and just published — the novel and is returning to speak at this year’s festival. “Winning Best of Show helped me realize I have a story to tell,” Rubin said. Marblehead Festival of Arts organizers are sounding the alarm: Without more volunteers, some signature festival events could be scaled back or even canceled.
