Slavery to Freedom walking tour
Thursday, Aug. 6, 4 p.m.
Join Jarrett Zeman from Marblehead Museum for a walking tour on the history of slavery and the abolition movement in Marblehead. You’ll see local sites where enslaved people worked and lived, and where white abolitionists fought for freedom from the pulpit, ballot box and Underground Railroad.

MAA: Opening exhibits reception

Make your own: Beach treasures necklace

Turn a favorite beach treasure into a one-of-a-kind necklace. Students will learn how to wire-wrap sea glass or shell focal pieces and combine them with beads to create a beautiful beach-inspired design. Perfect for kids who love the ocean and handmade jewelry. Marblehead’s Liquor War
Wednesday, Aug. 12, 7 p.m.
Marblehead Museum, 170 Washington St., will present a program on the history of drinking in town. Fed up with their unruly men, the local temperance movement made Marblehead a dry town for 50 years. Barmen kept liquor in secret hiding places, and shoemakers sold moonshine out of their kitchens.This led to an all-out war complete with police raids, street violence, attempted murder and courtroom drama. ‘10 Ways to to Survive a Zombie Apocalypse’

This music is produced as an intensive two-week program by MLT’s Children’s Program featuring middle and high school actors (ages 11-16).
When zombies attack, a ragtag group of survivors is thrown into a chaotic fight for their lives. Enter Jimmy, Christy, Susan and Sam — four not-so-qualified heroes who stumble through 10 outrageous methods to survive the zombie apocalypse. Tickets and info at mltlive.com.
America 250: Writing Workshop for Kids
Saturday, Aug. 15, 11 a.m.
This three-week writing workshop is designed to help students ages 8-12 strengthen their writing skills and enjoy the creative writing process, all while celebrating America’s 250th anniversary. Each session will combine age-appropriate instruction with entertaining and engaging activities to reinforce core writing fundamentals, using America’s founding and history as inspiration for original work.
Students will practice developing narratives, work on sentence structure and word choice, and develop their creative voices as writers. They will leave the workshop with a collection of their own original work to share, an enthusiasm for storytelling, and sharper descriptive writing skills to take into the school year.
