Good news for people who enjoy swimming at Crocker Park.
Marblehead Harbormaster Mark Souza told the Current Wednesday morning that a replacement swim dock is expected to be installed in about two weeks.
“We have secured a dock for temporary use from Mid-harbor Mooring and Launch Services at no cost,” Souza said. “I am working on mobilizing it to get it to the main harbor from the west shore side of Marblehead. That contractor will need to be compliant with the town procurement process.”
Souza said there are still a few steps before the dock will be ready for swimmers.
“Once we get it over to this side, we will need to get it up on land to retrofit it with proper attachment hardware and inspect for safety integrity. This will be done by my staff and myself. Once that is done, we then will need to contract a marine services contractor to mobilize to its swim location and install the gangway. Again, this will need to be compliant with the town’s procurement process,” he said.
Souza’s crew removed the Crocker Park swim dock after an early July storm damaged its permanent flotation log.
“The timeline will all depend on the procuring, retrofitting and weather to get it completed. We will be attempting to extend its use past its normal removal time, which is usually one to two weeks after Labor Day, due to fall weather systems such as tropical systems and hurricanes that affect that location drastically.”
