OBITUARY: Martha Jane (Wade) Small, 80

Martha Jane (Wade) Small, 80, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Nov. 21. Martha resided in Georgetown for 52 years where she raised her family. She was born in Marblehead and graduated from Marblehead High School in 1960. After high school Martha attended Katherine Gibbs College and was in the insurance industry until she retired. Martha was an avid cook in her younger years and enjoyed making many meals with her family.

When not in the kitchen, you would find her attending her children’s many athletic events. Martha enjoyed watching many New England sports teams and the Boston Red Sox were her favorite. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed many years of camping. As the Matriarch of the family, she took care of everyone. She was compassionate, understanding, and nurturing not only to her family but to everyone that met her. She truly enjoyed people.

Martha leaves behind 7 children and their families: Dawna (Lavender) Gauthier of Windham, NH, Bruce Lavender of Bradford, MA, Brian Lavender of Plaistow, NH, LeAnne Small of Georgetown, MA, Patricia (Small) Hamilton of Knightdale, NC, Robin (Small) Farrington of Knightdale, NC, and Janet (Small) Holt-Daugherty of Cleveland, GA. 17 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, William Small, her parents, Philip and Marjorie (Harris) Wade, and her grandson Jacob Wade Lavender.


Family and friends are invited to Martha’s visitation on Friday, Dec. 2 from 10 a.m. to noon. in the Conte – Giamberardino Funeral Home, 14 Pleasant St.., Georgetown. Her Funeral Service will follow at noon in the funeral home. Private burial will be held at the Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead.
