Richard A. "Dick" Farrell of Marblehead passed away on June 2, 2023, at age 90. He was the beloved husband of Nancy L. Farrell, with whom he shared 67 years of marriage after being high school sweethearts. Richard 'Dick' Farrell He was born in Marblehead and was the son of the late Edward W. Farrell and Louise Farrell (Odiorne). He was the loving father of four children, Mark E. Farrell, Elizabeth A. "Betsy" Scott, Patricia L. Docherty and David J. Farrell. Heather Nichols Deschenes, 54, of Essex, Massachusetts, peacefully passed away at home on May 17, with her husband by her side. She spent her childhood attending Marblehead schools and graduated from Syracuse University, earning her BA in architecture. Her firm, HND Architects, located in Marblehead, designed many beautiful homes and renovations on the North Shore. Heather Deschenes Heather was the consummate outdoors woman, never needing an excuse for a long walk. Hiking had also long been a passion; she backpacked in Europe around Mont Blanc and was working her way through the New England 4,000-footers. IN MEMORIAM: Remembering Marblehead’s ‘codfather’

Raymond C. Abbott, the man responsible for the ubiquitous golden codfish carvings adorning Marblehead homes, was laid to rest on May 23. His grandson, Derek Abbott, told the Marblehead Current that his grandfather passed away on April 20 after a period of declining health. He was 93. In the 1990s, Marblehead quickly adopted Abbott's golden codfish, elevating it to the status of other historic symbols gracing homes, including the majestic golden bald eagle and pineapples. Gloria Wright Gutwirth, 90, left behind the many who loved her on May 10, 2023. The daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Edgar Wright, she was raised in Beverly and resided for many years in Marblehead before moving to Naples, Florida. Arthur Epstein, beloved Marblehead benefactor, dies at 86

The Marblehead community is lamenting the loss of Arthur Joseph Epstein, a business executive, philanthropist and all-around mensch who leaves behind a legacy of transformative contributions to mental and behavioral health care and Jewish education on the North Shore.
