OBITURARY: Myron Stone, 97

Myron Stone of Swampscott, MA, Myron Stone, 97, passed away unexpectedly in his home of 66 years, in the community that he loved. Myron was a Patriot, devoted to Country, Community, and Family. A member of the greatest generation, he enlisted in the Marine Corps after graduating from High School and served honorably in WWII.

Myron was predeceased by his spouse, Rosalind Stone. Devoted father of Jacob and Linda Stone of Sarasota, FL, Samuel and Donna Stone of Swampscott and Michael and Rosalie Stone of Swampscott. Myron grew up in Swampscott, the son of Jacob and Elizabeth (Cohen) Stone. He was the loving brother of Robert Stone of St. Louis and his sister, the late Esther Adelson.

Myron’s anchor throughout his life was his beloved Swampscott. He lived in the town for more than 90 years, and contributed in many ways, both known and unknown. A member of the Swampscott Boosters back in the ’50s and ’60s, town-meeting member, and closely involved with the Veteran’s Committee, he was woven into the fabric of the community.

Active to the very end, he attended the Swampscott-Marblehead old-timers dinner the night before he passed. He loved the event, he helped organize it for many years from the Swampscott side, and fortuitously, he spent his last evening laughing and enjoying the grand stories that were surely told. Our family will forever remember him as the family patriarch, fully involved in the happiness of three sons, seven grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

Dad and papa was simply somebody you could depend on. He was adored and will be profoundly missed by his seven grandchildren, Sara Farbman (Richard) of Brooklyn, Aaron Stone of Somerville, Jill Skalniak of Woburn, Jennilee Stone of Winchester, Bill (Wendy) of Doylestown, PA, Alex (Heather) of Danvers, and Harry (Bridget) of Salem. He cherished the time he had with his 10 great-grandchildren: Malin, Micah, Nava, Jelani, Robert, Raegan, Sadie, AJ, Emerson, and Tyler. He will be genuinely missed by a large extended family of nieces, nephews, and their families.

Visiting Hours: A Memorial Service for Myron will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 29, at 10 a.m. at Temple Emanu-El, 393 Atlantic Avenue, Marblehead, MA 01945.

Burial in Swampscott Cemetery will follow immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Myron’s memory to Swampscott Gridiron Club, P.O. Box 63, Swampscott, MA 01907, or to Swampscott Senior Center, 200R Essex Street, Swampscott, MA 01907.
