Massachusetts has spent the past two years making it easier for homeowners to build accessory dwelling units, but in Marblehead, figuring out how those rules apply to individual projects has proven more complicated. The town has received 12 ADU applications since 2024, according to Community Development and Planning Director Brendan Callahan. The Marblehead Police Department had some new investigators on the case this summer — and these junior crime scene investigators came ready to hunt for clues. Twenty kids spent three days learning how police solve crimes, from fingerprints and DNA to drones and K-9s, before putting their new skills to work processing a mock crime scene. “This is our third class.
