Justin Werner Mckenney, 42, of Sarasota, Florida, formerly of Marblehead, passed away suddenly on Sept. 9. He was born July 24, 1984.
Justin was a 2004 graduate of Marblehead High School and went on to Alfred University in New York, where he studied art and business. A gifted, passionate artist, Justin had a love for glass blowing and created extraordinary work, including the beautiful glass buoys he designed. He and his wife launched the pottery line, Vegetabowls, which Oprah Magazine named as one of her favorite things.
His work was selected for display at the Museum of National History in Seattle, Washington. One of is pieces was purchased by Elton John, an accomplishment Justin was both humbled and excited by.
His creativity took him in many directions. He created, in his earlier years, a glass sneaker for a promotion for Zappos and a new tennis sneaker for New Balance.
Justin was always looking at what’s next during COVID. He and his wife, Mel, were concerned about the business. He said, ‘I have a great idea: I’m buying a sewing machine and making masks on Etsy!’ He jumped on it and thousands of masks were made!
Later, he earned his license to become a captain and launched his Siesta Key Boat Charters. He loved being on the ocean, meeting people and sharing the beauty of Sarasota, Longboat Key and other places.
Justin was an avid golfer, skier and played Marblehead hockey. He was creative, adventurous, entrepreneurial and above all a people person who brought joy to those around him. He most enjoyed spending time with his family.
Justin leaves his beloved wife Melanie and his two children, Lyla and Reed, who brought him such joy. He was the beloved son of the late John Sewell Mckenney Jr. and is survived by his mother, Kim Werner Mckenney; his brother Landon and his wife Darcy; and nephew Kamron. He also left many aunts and uncles, cousins and friends and family.
Justin touched so many lives and will be deeply missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
