POLICE LOG: Woman injured in hit-and-run on Atlantic Avenue, plus neighbor dispute over cat litter

Excerpts from the Marblehead police log Jan. 6-18. Consistent with state law, Marblehead police have adopted a policy of not providing media outlets reports related to incidents involving domestic violence, juveniles and matters that remain under investigation.

Jan. 6

6:19 p.m. — Officer Robert O. Picariello Jr. responded to a report of a hit-and-run on Washington Street. A witness reported seeing a dark-colored Jeep strike a parked Toyota Corolla and flee the scene. Officer Picariello interviewed witnesses and had the damaged vehicle towed. He later obtained security camera footage showing the collision but was unable to get the Jeep’s license plate. 

Jan. 7

6:18 p.m. — Officer Robert O. Picariello Jr. took a report from a resident on Heritage Way who returned from vacation to find the back of their house had allegedly been egged. The resident has had prior incidents with local youths and believes the same group may be responsible. She will provide any further information from her home security cameras if available. Officer Picariello advised documenting the incident and to call police about any additional issues.

Jan. 11

5:30 p.m. — Officer Dennis DeFelice responded to complaints about a neighbor’s bright outdoor lighting on Weston Road. After speaking to both households, one neighbor agreed to adjust the lighting to resolve the issue.

5:34 p.m. — Officer Tyler Bates took a harassment report from a Treat Road resident regarding an ongoing dispute with a neighbor. The resident reported incidents of rude gestures, yelling and items being thrown onto their property. Documentation was provided and options such as restraining orders were discussed.

Jan. 12

2:29 p.m. — Officer Andrew P. DiMare responded to the Eastern Yacht Club on Foster Street and took a vandalism report that bushes on their property had limbs cut off. The damage occurred sometime after 8 a.m. the day prior and was reported by staff.

8:14 p.m. — Officer Sean Sweeney met with a woman at the station who reported unauthorized charges in June 2023 on a credit card she rarely uses. After contacting the bank, she received a court summons to address the disputed charges. Sweeney provided documentation and advised checking other accounts and card cancellation.

Jan. 13

8:02 p.m. — Officer Andrew P. DiMare responded to a neighbor dispute at an Atlantic Avenue apartment building. One resident reported instances of water, cat litter and other items being dumped onto her deck from upstairs. Photos were provided and the upstairs neighbor denied dumping litter but agreed to be more careful. Both parties were advised on ways to address ongoing problems.

Jan. 15

1:26 p.m. — Officer Timothy J. Morley met with a resident who hired a contractor to do fireplace repair work. After additional repairs were suggested, the pricing increased significantly, raising suspicion of fraud. Contact with the alleged contractor could not be verified. The resident was advised on checking licenses and permits as well as options for recovering payments.

7:49 p.m. — Officer Dennis DeFelice responded to Treat Road for a dispute between neighbors. One resident reported seeing the neighbor standing outside staring at her house. She has complained of harassment before and was advised on her options. DeFelice also interviewed the neighbors who felt cameras on the property violated their privacy. All parties were informed that camera placement was not illegal and issues could be addressed through civil court.

Jan. 17

3:23 p.m. — Officer Luke Peters met with a college student who reported falling victim to a job scam. After responding to what he thought was a job offer from his professor, the student purchased items he was told would be reimbursed. He then deposited a fraudulent check and lost the amount he prepaid out of pocket. The student provided details on the scam email address, Venmo account and phone number used. Documentation was forwarded to the Criminal Investigation Division.

5:45 p.m. — Officer Andrew P. DiMare took an identity fraud report over the phone from a woman who found an alleged fraudulent credit card opened in her name. She had already reported to the credit card company and seen no further suspicious activity or charges. Information was documented.

Jan. 18

5:43 p.m.  — Officer Andrew P. DiMare responded to an assault report from a business on Atlantic Avenue. The victim was struck allegedly by a vehicle as she was opening the door, suffering minor injuries. Witnesses could only provide a general vehicle description as it fled the scene. An investigation for the hit-and-run driver continues.
