The Marblehead Education Association plans a march and rally before Tuesday’s bargaining session with School Committee members Sarah Fox and Jenn Schaeffner. It is the final negotiating meeting before next school year.
Members of the MEA will gather at the high school at 3 p.m. for what they’re calling a “stand out” and will then march to the Brown School, where they’ll hold a rally.
“The Marblehead School Committee has rejected or made minor counter-proposals to the more than 25 proposals made by the union,” according to a press release sent by the MEA. “Over the weekend, management unilaterally changed the location of the negotiation sessions, prompting the MEA to add a march to precede its planned rally.”
The MEA has been bargaining with Fox and Schaeffner since March for new contracts for teachers, tutors, paraprofessionals and other union members. Those contracts expire at different times over the summer. The talks took a turn for the worse last week, when MEA members shouted in anger over the School Committee’s proposals.
