Matthew Doane Callahan, 67, of Marblehead, passed away peacefully on May 14. He was the beloved husband of the late MaryBeth (Ursem) and the loving father of Regina Brown (Cody) and Kathleen Flanagan (Michael). Matthew was the treasured son of the late Jim and Carol Callahan and a dear brother to J. Christopher Callahan (Anne) of Shelburne, Vermont; John Callahan (Diane) of Norton; and Elizabeth Murphy (Brian) of Swampscott. He was an adored nephew to Mary Doane Cassidy and a cherished grandfather to Madeline, Bennett, Shane and Riley.

Throughout his life, he was a loyal friend known to all for his quick, insightful wit. Matthew had a passion for all sports and a love of fishing. Matthew will be fondly remembered as “dad of the year” for 38 years in a row, a testament to the love and dedication he poured into his role as a father. His love knew no bounds and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A private service will be held to honor Matthew’s life, and he will be laid to rest in Swampscott Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in memory of Matthew and MaryBeth Callahan to Our Lady of the Wayside, 38023 Colorado Avenue, Avon, Ohio, 44011.
