After the woman picked out some items and placed them on the counter, the business owner showed her the Tiffany bracelet and let her try it on. The business owner believed that she had taken the bracelet back from her and placed it back in its box but did not lock the box. Moments later, the woman asked to use the business’ restroom and asked about cameras, which struck the business owner as strange. The business owner had since come to believe that the woman may have still had the bracelet at the time or that she may have taken it after entering and exiting the bathroom. Soon thereafter, a Marblehead sergeant radioed that he had the vehicle stopped at the intersection of Pleasant and Devereux streets. The officer responded to the scene and confirmed that the vehicle was missing its front bumper but otherwise appeared driveable. The officer explained to the driver why the detail officers had stopped her. The driver understood that she had been in an accident and admitted that she should have stayed on scene to exchange information with the other driver but explained that she had not stopped because she was on her way to a doctor’s appointment. The officer explained to the driver that the Swampscott Police were on their way to finish their investigation. Once the driver was done speaking to the Swampscott Police, the Marblehead officer advised her that although her vehicle could be driven safely, she should drive straight home and contact her insurance company to make arrangements to have the vehicle taken to a collision shop, as she should not be driving around with a missing front bumper. The driver said she understood. The officer observed as she navigated a three-point turn without any difficulty and continued outbound on Pleasant Street without incident.

The man called the number and was asked to provide his personal information, including his name, address and Social Security number. The man said that he did give the person on the other end of the phone his Social Security number and was then asked to provide his bank account number. It was then that the man became suspicious, and he hung up the phone. The man stated that he had already contacted his bank to notify it of the situation and request that he be alerted about any potentially fraudulent activity. The officer advised the man to consider freezing his credit using the three major credit bureaus and report the incident online at IdentityTheft.gov. 2:59 p.m. An officer was dispatched to Harding Lane to speak with a woman whose $4,000 gold engagement ring was missing, which she believed had been stolen.
