Town marking Memorial Day with ceremonies, parade

Marblehead will mark Memorial Day this coming weekend with a series of events honoring the nation’s fallen service members.

The observances begin Friday, May 22, with a Veterans Breakfast hosted by the Council on Aging at 9 a.m. The event is sponsored by the Masons. The breakfast will be followed by grave flagging at Star of the Sea Cemetery.

On Saturday, May 23, grave flagging at Waterside Cemetery will begin at 9 a.m. Participants should meet at the bell tower. All are welcome.

On Sunday, May 24, the VFW Post will host a ceremony at 1 p.m. at Star of the Sea Cemetery. All are welcome.

Memorial Day events on Monday, May 25 begin at 8 a.m. with a service at Clark’s Landing on State Street, followed by a muster at the Old Town House. The Memorial Day parade begins at 9 a.m. and will proceed up Pleasant Street to Memorial Park. After a brief ceremony there, the parade will continue to Waterside Cemetery. A trolley will be available for riders.

Following the cemetery, participants will return to the Old Town House for a flag-raising ceremony. The VFW, 321 West Shore Drive, will host a barbecue afterward.
