To the editor: First literary speed data event brought ‘magic” to the MAA
On behalf of the 2026 Marblehead Festival of Arts’ Literary Festival, I would like to offer several thanks: First, to Xhazzie Kindle and the Marblehead Arts Association for making the organization’s tavern available for the first of our prequel events, Literary Speed Dating, on April 17. The venue was perfect, and we are grateful for the opportunity to use it.
Secondly, we wish to express our thanks to all the “guinea pigs” who attended this brand new event, and provided us feedback. There was a magic in the tavern that night as attendees spoke eloquently and passionately about the book each brought to share with others.
Most interesting, perhaps, were the rare disagreements. “I absolutely loved ‘Theo of Golden’,” raved one. “It’s one of the best books I’ve read in a long time, and I know I’ll read it again and again.” And then from across the table, “I hated it. I could not get into it, but my sister says I have to try again. I’m still struggling.”
Such was our evening, which was a refreshing mix of men and women passionate about reading. One attendee even drove in from Worcester for the evening event. Rest assured we will be repeating this event on occasion, although likely under a name that describes it better. Already we’re looking forward to our May 13 event, also in the MAA tavern, which will feature popular international best-selling author, Jenna Blum. Do check out all our literary events, as well as Festival events, at marbleheadfestival.org.
