REV YOUR ENGINES: Annual Girl Scout Derby a success

Submitted by the Marblehead Girl Scout service unit

STEAM skills were on full display as 70 Girl Scouts, ages 5 and up, showcased their innovation at the Marblehead Girl Scout Derby. The second annual sibling race added to the excitement.

The event, held at Brown School on March 29, was organized by the Marblehead Girl Scout service unit which is made up of 12 town troops. Participants transformed simple pinewood blocks into creative, gravity-powered race cars.

Before the races began, each Girl Scout’s car was carefully inspected by a volunteer pit crew to ensure it met the derby’s rules and standards.

As cheers from the crowd filled the school cafeteria, the race cars zoomed down a six-lane ramp while the Girl Scouts watched closely. Trophies were awarded in six speed and six design categories.
