Marblehead Racial Justice Team to discuss climate justice

The theme of this month’s Conversations on Race event with the Marblehead Racial Justice Team will be “Climate Justice is Racial Justice.” The program will be held Monday, May 22, 7 p.m. at the Marblehead Museum, 170 Washington St.  Climate justice is a term used to talk about the impact of environmental pollution on different populations. During this session, Rev. Clyde Elledge from St. Andrew’s Church will explore climate justice as a historical movement. Discussion will move to present day climate injustice and its contribution to systemic environmental racism.  The program will be broadcast on Zoom. Register HERE. Glover students honor Black heroes with Racial Justice Team

The Marblehead Racial Justice Team held its second annual portrait presentation at the Glover School on May 5, delivering paintings of John Lewis and Harriet Tubman. The portraits, done by local artist Anne Demeter, were displayed at the Brown School last year and will stay at the Glover for the next year. Lynch/van Otterloo YMCA happenings

The Y kicked off the countdown to summer with its annual Healthy Kids Day with fun activities for the whole family. More than 300 children attended and enjoyed a variety of activities including gardening, creating camp friendship bracelets, swimming in the pool and jumping in the gymnastics studio. The day ended with a special family yoga session. Swampscott police dog Sora greeted children at Healthy Kids Day. The Driftwood Garden Club was founded in 1952 as a volunteer, non-profit organization by a group of women in Marblehead who were looking to offer a social service making and delivering floral arrangements to hospitals and dwellers of tenement buildings in Boston. Hoop dreams: JCCNS offers scholarships in memory of local basketball leaders

The JCC of the North Shore has announced its new Myers-Bloom Scholarship for two local high school seniors. The scholarship honors the memories of Jimmy Myers and Kenny Bloom, who “had a profound impact on the JCCNS basketball program,” according to the JCCNS. Myers was a longtime JCCNS basketball coach and mentor for children and young adults. Bloom was an avid player and advocate for the program.    The scholarship will recognize the scholastic, athletic and leadership qualities of high school student athletes. “We are thrilled to be able to offer this substantial scholarship to two local deserving graduating seniors,” said Ralph Rotman, longtime JCCNS supporter and scholarship committee member. “The JCCNS has long been a place that by its very nature fosters...

All programs are held at the Judy and Gene Jacobi Community Center, 10 Humphrey St.,  unless otherwise stated. The meals are prepared in the Council on Aging’s commercial kitchen. These lunches are supported by The Friends of the Council on Aging.  Grab-n-go lunches  Grab-n-go lunches are offered on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at the Council on Aging.
