The Brown School unveiled a new outdoor creative playspace Friday, giving students an alternative way to enjoy recess beyond traditional sports and playground equipment.
Designed for children who may gravitate more toward creative activities, the space includes areas for pretend play with cars and animal figurines, a rocky path for trucks, colorful tires for crawling and exploring, and a painted game board.
First-grade teacher Melissa McGuinness led the playspace project, which was funded by a grant from the Friends of Marblehead Schools.
This year’s Friends grant season runs Oct. 13 through Jan. 15.
School personnel, parents, community members and professionals are invited to apply for grants to enhance curriculum and educational experiences in Marblehead schools.
