Leigh Blander’s article in the Aug. 26 edition, “Looking for answers to road and sidewalk projects” prompted me to write. I have a simple question that demands a simple answer about three streets and when they will be paved.
The three streets are Atlantic Avenue from Seaview Avenue to Ocean Avenue, Washington Street from Five Corners to the Muffin Shop, and Gerry Street. These three streets carry a huge volume of traffic and are central to getting around town.
In addition, Atlantic and Washington are major tourist thoroughfares and are a terrible representation of the quality of life in Marblehead. It is hard to understand how Bubier Road took precedence over so many other much busier streets.
It is disappointing that our elected officials, who travel these same roads, are not demanding a schedule and action in 2026 to prioritize these areas. I am also taken aback that Thatcher Kezer would consider hiring a “communications specialist” for town projects. Department heads should be willing and capable of communicating with the public; we are their customers.
There is not a communications problem, there is a problem of arrogance and disregard for the 8,000 households that rely on public works to provide services. The residents of Marblehead deserve improved communication, more respect and better roads.
