LETTER: Town Charter update

To the editor:

The Marblehead Town Charter Committee has submitted materials to the select board and concluded its work on drafting a preliminary town charter document. The submitted Draft C is a working draft, intended as a baseline document for the select board to use as it considers next steps in the charter process. A submitted executive summary includes an overview of the charter committee’s work, suggested next steps for the select board, and a timeline. These materials will be available on the town web page marbleheadma.gov/town-charter-committee.

I’d like to thank the 11 members of the Town Charter Committee, both current and previous, for their participation and collaboration in the TCC’s charter deliberations. Current members of the committee are: Ron Grenier, Seamus Hourihan, Tom Massaro, Caleb Miller, Victor Wild, and me. Former members are Rossana Ferrante, vice chair; Sean Casey; Bill Conly; Amy Danforth; and Jim Zisson.

Thank you to the town boards, committees and officials who met with the TCC to answer questions about their respective responsibilities and department affiliations.

Thank you to Thatcher Kezer for his thoughts and perspectives serving as a non-voting member of the committee, and many thanks to Kyle Wiley for her patience and assistance to the TCC. Thank you also to the Collins Center for its input on charter issues and to Lisa Mead, Marblehead town counsel, for her review of draft charter language and answers to the committee’s questions.

Respectfully submitted,
Amy Drinker, TCC chair
Gregory Street
