In memory of…
Last week, this retired Marblehead teacher-coach (middle and high school history and head baseball and softball and assistant basketball coach) attended Barbara Kulevich’s meaningful and memorable funeral at Star of the Sea Church. Barbara’s son, Tom, and her daughters, Mary-Beth and Jo-Mary, delivered masterfully a three-part eulogy that captured the true essence of their mother, one of Marblehead’s finest residents who made our town a better place in which to live.
In the days following the funeral, I have given some thought to some other departed individuals who have also contributed much to the well-being of our beloved community as well, knowing that I am only scratching the surface. They are Judy and Gene Jacobi, Virginia Gamage and Priscilla Lord, teachers Debbie Caulkins and Ann Cohen, doctors Stanford Hopkins, George MacDonald and Chuck Louden, coaches Brad Sheridan and Trim Robarts. I leave it to you, dear readers, to select a few individuals that could be added to this list.
At this point, you might be asking what is this writer’s purpose. Well, it involves the three-tiered override, for which we will be casting our ballots on June 9. I sincerely believe that the folks listed in the above paragraph, if they were still alive, would be voting for the override tier that would do the most for our community’s future. With that said, consider casting your votes in memory of people who no longer live among us but gave of themselves to make Marblehead the town we love so much today.
If you are thinking about voting for Tier 3 as am I, remember to also vote for Tier 1 and Tier 2 in order to guarantee that we have helped Marblehead’s future well-being.
