The Water Department will conduct its annual hydrant flushing program May 10 to May 15.
Flushing starts on Sunday at 11:30 p.m. and will be conducted through 7 a.m. each day. Work will begin at the Swampscott and Salem borders and travel to the downtown area. Thursday night, May 14, flow testing will be completed in various areas of town.
“You may notice water flowing from some hydrants during the day. This is part of normal hydrant flushing procedures,” according to the town. “During this week, it is possible that some properties may experience discolored water early in the morning. If you should encounter this, run cold water only in the kitchen sink until the water runs
clear (approximately 20 minutes). Refrain from using the hot water or doing laundry until the discoloration is gone.
Contact the Marblehead Water Department 781-631-0102 if the problem persists.
