With a blizzard forecast to hit Marblehead and much of the northeast Sunday night into Monday, the town has declared a snow emergency parking ban starting Sunday at 9 p.m.
“Due to the unpredictable length of this storm event, the ban will not be lifted until the road conditions are safe,” according to a message from the town Saturday afternoon. “When the ban is lifted, communications through social media and the town website will be provided.”
During the parking ban, it is illegal to park any vehicle — including boats and trailers — on any public way. Vehicles, boats and trailers not off the public way will be subject to being ticketed and/or towed. If your vehicle is towed, you should call Marblehead Police at 781-631-1212.
Superintendent John Robidoux alerted families that school and all related activities are canceled Monday.
The town has also closed all municipal buildings Monday. Those buildings include Abbot Hall, Mary Alley Building, the Council on Aging and Abbot Public Library. Trash and recycling pickup will not happen Monday and will be delayed one day throughout the week.
The National Weather Service has declared a blizzard warning for the area starting Sunday at 4 p.m. through Tuesday at 7 a.m. There is also a coastal flood watch in effect Monday at 1 a.m. through Tuesday at 7 a.m.
