The Marblehead High School boys’ basketball team beat the Bishop Fenwick Crusaders, 70-40, at home Monday evening.
“It was a big one for us,” said Marblehead Head Coach Michael Giardi. “That’s our 10th win so we’ve qualified for the state tournament which is a big thing to do on senior night.”

The Magicians sprinted out to an 11-0 lead highlighted by three quick buckets from Cam Weaver and a 3-pointer by Yamil Gil-Duran. Declan Gibson and Finn Baron contributed scores of their own as the clock wound down to give Marblehead an 18-2 advantage at the buzzer.
Bishop Fenwick was able to get some points on the board in the second quarter, but a 7-point quarter from Marblehead’s Blake Golden pushed the Magician lead to 31-13 heading into recess.
The points began to flow for Marblehead when the teams returned from the halftime break. The Magician offense, led by a lights out performance by Baron, saw the margin balloon to 30 points after 24 minutes of play.
With the game in hand, Giardi reached all the way to the end of the bench as the clock wound down, giving all 15 players on the roster a chance to see the floor. Senior Will Fitzgerald put on a show in the final minutes, posting seven points and a flashy assist in the fourth to put the finishing touches on the 70-40 senior day victory.

The win pushes the Magicians to 10-6 on the season as they punch their ticket to the MIAA Division II State Tournament. Marblehead will take on the scrappy Gloucester Fisherman in the second leg of a four-game home stand to close out the season on Thursday at 7 p.m.
