A little sparkle in winter: Tiaras take over the tavern

It was quite the royal affair when the Marblehead Arts Association hosted its Tiaras in the Tavern supper club Monday evening, Jan. 5.  The tavern, on the lower level of the Hooper Mansion, was filled with people sporting sparkly, bejeweled headbands while chatting and sharing dinner.

“The first Monday of every month we want to make time to get together, socialize, exchange ideas,” said Alessandra Donovan, who chairs the MAA’s Membership Committee.

Donovan added that winter months can be isolating, and the supper club is meant to get people out of the house and connecting with one another. The event is open to the community.

Each supper has a theme. December’s was Festivus, the holiday popularized on the TV show, “Seinfeld.” People brought Festivus-theme food, including babka and soup. (If you know, you know.)

On Jan. 5. MAA director Xhazzie Kindle, wearing a long red gown and tiara, had prepared coronation chicken, picking up on the royal feel of the evening. Other offerings included: tomato/feta pasta, stuffed peppers, potato soup, several salads, cheeses, desserts and wine.

MAA member Amy Goldfarb brought her adult daughter, Olivia.

“It’s incredibly fun getting to know everyone in a more intimate setting,” said Amy, who created her own sea glass headdress.

Seven-year-old Cecily Taft was proudly donning her tiara, sitting with her mother, Christen, who was wearing a floor-length green gown with bright red heels.

“I came to try some yummy food,” said Cecily, who had just arrived from her tap and jazz dance class.
