Vigil to be held Sunday at Devereux Beach for crash victim

A candlelight vigil in memory of 13-year-old Savanah Gatchell is planned for Sunday, 6:45 p.m., at Devereux Beach, according to Gatchell’s family and friends.

The Marblehead student was killed in a car crash on Atlantic Avenue early Tuesday morning. A 16-year-old boy, whom police believe to be the driver, has been charged with operating under the influence.

Savanah “was very loving and kind, and saw the best in everybody,” said her mom, Christine Gatchell, on Wednesday.

“She had a very big heart,” added her sister Alyssa Otero.

Through tears, Christine Gatchell added, “I’m very, very, very grateful for everybody’s support.”

The family said funeral arrangements have not yet been made.
