LETTER: Superintendent’s determination, hard work did not go unnoticed

“Toto, I’ve a feeling were not in Kansas anymore!”

What can I say except, I am truly heartsick what I have seen the newly seated School Committee has done in just 37 days.

I have lived in Marblehead for 17 years, before that Swampscott for 31 years and 19 years in Lynn. Three children, probably the oldest parents (67 and 73) with a 10-year-old in the Marblehead school system. Pretty safe to say, we have seen a lot involving school systems over the years, but this pretty much takes the cake with so much discord in town. The division within our town has reached new levels.

We have had the pleasure to get to know Dr. B over the last three years. We found him to be engaging, smart, funny, energetic, compassionate and very concerned with making the Marblehead school system the BEST it can be. He was committed to be a presence in our schools. You could see him at many after-school and community events. He made every effort to know a student, parent, teacher and volunteer’s name.

Thank you, Dr. B, for your determination and hard work. It did not go unnoticed.

I will sign my name as I did welcoming you to our town three years ago.

With much gratitude,

Nanny Mc, a.k.a. Mary McCarriston, and family
