The School Committee posted an announcement on Tuesday for an executive session (closed to the public) this Friday, July 21, to discuss Superintendent John Buckey’s contract, which has two years remaining. The private meeting will be held via Zoom.

“Due to the fact that it is executive session, I cannot comment beyond what is posted on the agenda,” School Committee Chair Sarah Fox told the Marblehead Current Tuesday afternoon.
“As soon as it is appropriate to make a statement, I will,” she added.
Buckey was hired in 2020 with a three-year contract, which was extended to five years in 2021 on a vote of 4-1. Fox was the lone dissenter.
Newly elected School Committee member Brian Ota did not respond requests for comment about whether he will recuse himself from the contract discussion. Ota filed a discrimination complaint against Buckey last year, after Ota was not rehired as Glover School principal. Ota recently told the Current that he is moving forward with his complaint.
