More than 60 seniors attended a workshop at the Council on Aging Oct. 29 to learn how to apply for Marblehead’s new means-tested property tax exemption.

Applications are now open for the program, which is designed to help eligible seniors whose property taxes consume a disproportionate share of their income.
The Select Board approved the eligibility requirements July 22, setting the maximum individual exemption at $2,000 and allocating $200,000 for the program in fiscal 2027.
To qualify, seniors must first receive the maximum state Senior Circuit Breaker tax credit and demonstrate that their property taxes still represent a disproportionate share of their income.
The town’s Assessors Office developed the application process and will oversee submissions, approvals and distribution of exemptions. For more information, including eligibility requirements and application instructions, visit the Assessors Office website.
