Edward Thomas Courtney, age 78, of Pittsfield, formerly of Marblehead, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2023.

Born in Niskayuna, New York, Edward was the son of the late Frederick Marvin and Esther (Mills) Courtney.
Ed is survived by his dedicated daughter, Dianna Courtney-Chmiel, and her forever, Christopher Chmiel. He was the cherished cousin of Thomas Owen Mills. Ed leaves several close friends.
He grew up in Scotia, New York, until his senior year in high school when he moved to Town and graduation from Marblehead High School with the Class of 1964.
Ed raised his family in Marblehead, where he spent many years as the owner of Ed’s Getty on Pleasant Street before continuing his automotive expertise for the town of Marblehead. He was extremely proud to have been and educator at the North Shore Regional Vocational Technical High School in Beverly.
In his earlier years, he was an illustrious member of the all-volunteer Beukendaal (New York) Fire Department. He enjoyed his ham and side-band two-way radios, which he used to chat with others worldwide.
Memorial services for Edward will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at 11 a.m. at St Stephen’s United Methodist Church, 67 Cornell Road, Marblehead.
