Let’s Eat!: Dollars for Scholars launches fundraiser

Marblehead Dollars for Scholars announces its sixth annual gift card fundraiser, “Let’s Eat!” Established in 1987, this local nonprofit that provides financial, need-based scholarships to college students will partner with a variety of Marblehead eateries to raise scholarship funds. Throughout the month of March, four businesses will donate 10% of all online or in-person gift card purchases to the organization. Honor an excellent teacher today

Nominations are being accepted for the Margaret Voss Howard Teacher Recognition Award, a fund of the Essex County Community Foundation.  The yearly award honors the contributions of one teacher from the Salem schools and one from Marblehead schools, with each receiving $1000. Teachers, other school employees, parents, students and citizens may nominate a teacher by submitting a detailed letter explaining why the teacher should be honored and sending it to howardteacheraward@yahoo.com. Nearly 20 students competed in the Marblehead Charter Community Public School spelling bee Jan. 3, as classmates cheered them on from the sidelines. The contest is part of the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Seventh-grader Noah Pelikhov won the MCCPS spelling bee Feb. 3. A record number of young scientists filled Brown School with bubbling experiments and big ideas during the school’s fourth annual STEAM Fair on Jan. 29. After multiple rounds of reductions, Marblehead Public Schools officials said they are within $806 of a level-funded fiscal year 2027 budget at the School Committee’s Budget Subcommittee meeting on Jan. 29.
