What would it take to get 75% of eligible voters to actually vote in Marblehead? Do you need a ride to the polls? Ask a neighbor. Do you need help with how to register to vote in the first place? The Town Clerk at Abbot Hall can help you. Do you maybe not care and are happy to let others make the decisions for you about who represents us in the government? That seems so sad. Do you feel inadequate to choose and uninformed about the issues and the candidates? See the next paragraph: We are so very lucky in Marblehead to have three local news sources just for us. The Current comes to your mail box every week and is full of helpful info for deciding what to do at the voting booth. So is the Independent, which comes to your email. And The Marblehead Weekly, mailed to everyone, also has helpful news.
My main thought is “Democracy is not a spectator sport,” as we say again and again in the League of Women Voters. Hope to see you at the voting polls on Sept. 1 and Nov. 3. The Town Clerk’s office can also help you with early voting and/or to find your very own voting precinct. You will feel very good about being there -—a friendly place with ready help for how it all works.
