Marblehead police chief intends to retire in spring

The Current has learned that Marblehead Police Chief Dennis King has alerted the Select Board that he intends to retire when his contract ends June 30, 2027.

King became Marblehead’s chief in 2021, after serving 25 years with Salem Police.

For the final year of his contract, his salary is $195,000.

Asked when the Select Board will begin looking for King’s replacement, Chair Dan Fox told the Current, “The Select Board has not started a search committee as the timing is close to a year out.”

King is the latest leader in town this summer to announce a departure, including Finance Director Aleesha Benjamin (whose last day is tomorrow), Town Administrator Thatcher Kezer (at the end of the year) and Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations Mike Pfifferling (in October).
