NEW: Marblehead power outage will last at least 8 hours, cooling station activated at Brown School

A power outage has hit much of Marblehead this afternoon, as temperatures climb to near 100 degrees. According to a robocall, the outage will last at least eight hours and restoration is not expected until late Thursday night.

Fire Chief Jason Gilliland said the outage may have been caused by a wire that melted near the Village 13 power station along the Rail Trail.

Gilliland urged anyone who needs to, to come to an emergency cooling center at the Brown School, where chairs and cots are set up and there is air conditioning.
