Call for fireworks display donations
The town’s Fireworks Committee is planning a special show this July 4 to celebrate the country’s 250th birthday, and it is looking for donations.
Marblehead’s fireworks show is consistently voted “top 10 in the country by Coastal Living Magazine,” according to the committee.
Donations can be sent via check payable to the Town of Marblehead, with “fireworks” in the memo line, mailed to Abbot Hall, 188 Washington St. It is a tax-deductible contribution.
Other ways to donate include:
- Via a separate 501(c)(3), the Friends of the Marblehead Fireworks, online at fireworksforever.org
- Using @marbleheadfireworks on Venmo
- Your donor-advised fund by searching for EIN 46-4756810
Heat pump pizza party with HeatSmart
Curious about how to lower your energy bills and carbon footprint with heat pumps? Come to the Council on Aging, 10 Humphrey St., on June 5, 11:30 a.m. and Learn about the benefits of heat pumps as a sustainable alternative for home heating and cooling. Food Pantry needs you
The Marblehead Food Pantry has a new, easy way people can donate. Shop at https://loom.ly/sfaBHoI and Amazon will deliver your donations. (The option to ship to the Food Pantry will appear at the start of the checkout process.)
Here’s a list of what’s needed most, according to Food Pantry President Marcy Schwam:
— 2 lb. bags of white rice
— 2 lb. flour
— 2 lb. sugar
— pasta
— pasta sauce
— 24 oz. cooking oil
— 15 oz. mayo
— 8 oz. mustard
— 20 oz. ketchup
— ground coffee
— shelf-stable milk
— Ritz and Saltine crackers
— individual applesauce cups
— Ensure
People can also leave non-perishable food items, paper goods and toiletries at the Masonic Lodge, 62 Pleasant St. Turn down into the driveway to the right of the building and look for a sign near the entrance to the walkway into the building. Donations can be dropped off Tuesdays, 9-11 a.m.
Goloboy goodbye
Newly retired MHTV General Manager Joan Goloboy received special citations from the Massachusetts House and Senate on May 20 for her years of service leading the public access TV station here in town. Goloboy led MHTV since 2011, during which time the station won many prestigious awards, including Best Small Market Station in the Nation and Overall Excellence in the Northeast Region.
Dozens of people gathered for Goloboy’s retirement party, including MHTV’s new General Manager Brian Hebert.
Rotary scholarships
The Rotary Club presented its annual scholarships to Marblehead students on May 21 at the Boston Yacht Club. Grey Collins, Eliza Kay, Chloe Rowland, Eldar Yahorau and Will Cruikshank each won a $5,000 award. The Rotary also awarded $10,000 in camperships this year.
