LETTER: Let’s affirm our support for the Constitution

To the editor:

Fellow Marbleheaders, I would like to call your attention to Article 40 on the warrant. It is a clear and straightforward resolution affirming citizens’ support for the Constitution. This resolution draws inspiration from the mid-18th century, when leaders from towns across Essex County united to resist British rule by adopting “resolves” condemning the actions of Parliament and the king. These efforts led to the formation of Committees of Correspondence, helping pave the way for the Declaration of Independence and, ultimately, the Constitution.

What began as nonviolent protest and principled resistance eventually culminated in the confrontation at Lexington. By voting “yes” at Town Meeting, you affirm your commitment to the principles that have guided our nation for nearly 250 years. I hope to see you on May 4.
