Marblehead election updates: Sarah Fox pulls papers for another School Committee run; sitting Select Board member will not run for re-election

***NEW Tuesday: Sarah Fox has pulled papers to run again for School Committee. Fox served three terms on the committee, before losing last June. Incumbent Melissa Clucas and Ann Marie Jordan have also pulled papers for the two available seats.

Also: Select Board member Alexa Singer, whose term expires in June, announced that she will not seek re-election.

“It is time for me to dedicate the coming years to my family and step aside to allow a new perspective to join the board,” Singer wrote in a statement late Monday. “While I am stepping down from this role, my love for Marblehead and the wonderful people I have had the pleasure to serve remains unwavering. I look forward to continuing to contribute to our community in new ways.”

School Committee member Jenn Schaeffner, whose term expires in June, has pulled papers to run for the Select Board. Schaeffner served on the School Committee from 2016-2020 before being elected again in 2023.

 She is also a member of the Board of Commissioners of Marblehead Housing Authority.

Schaeffner told the Current Monday afternoon: “I am excited to have pulled nomination papers for the position of Select Board member. Marblehead is at a fiscal turning point. I am running to bring a fresh, data-driven perspective to the Select Board based upon total transparency and sustainable affordability. We need a long-term strategy that balances our pride of town with our reality to build an affordable and fiscally resilient Marblehead.”

The town’s election is scheduled for June 9.

Two Select Board seats are up for grabs. Incumbent Erin Noonan has pulled papers for re-election.

Recreation & Parks Commissioner Rossana Ferrante has also pulled papers for the Select Board.

Meanwhile, there are two available seats on the School Committee. Incumbent Melissa Clucas has pulled papers to keep her seat. Ann Marie Jordan has also pulled papers.

According to the Town Clerk’s Office, candidates must collect at least 50 signatures and return nomination papers by 5 p.m. April 21. Papers are available at the Town Clerk’s Office in Abbot Hall.

Here’s how other races are shaping up as of Monday, April 6:

Board of Health (three seats): Incumbent Tom McMahon has pulled papers for reelection. Julie Selbst and Kristin Dubay Horton, who currently serves on the Marblehead Housing Authority, also took out papers.

Planning Board (two seats): Incumbents Robert Schaeffner and Marc Liebman are running again.

Town moderator (one seat): Incumbent Jack Attridge has pulled papers for reelection. Peter Jaffe has pulled papers to challenge Attridge.

Board of Assessors (one seat): John Kelley will not seek reelection, ending a more than 40-year tenure on the board. Bryan G. Adams has pulled papers.

Water and Sewer Commission (two seats): Incumbents Barton Hyte and Gregory W. Burt have taken out papers for reelection.

Municipal Light Commission (one seat): Incumbent Matthew Harrington has pulled papers for reelection.

Library Trustees (two seats): Incumbents Gary Amberik and Katherine Barker have taken out papers for reelection.

Housing Authority (one seat): Incumbent Bill Kuker has pulled papers.

Cemetery Commission: Incumbent Rabbi David Meyer has pulled papers for reelection. Sally Sands and Rose McCarthy have taken out papers for a two-year unexpired term.

Recreation & Parks: Incumbents Larry Simpson, Chris Kennedy, Karin Ernst and Shelly Curran Bedrossian will each seek another term. Ken Klaiman has also pulled papers.
