Marblehead tree burning warms crowd at Riverhead

About 200 people turned out at Riverhead Beach Tuesday night for the town’s annual tree burning. Marblehead Fire Department lit a huge pile of local Christmas trees (Chief Jason Gilliland estimates 300-350) with handheld torches just after 6 p.m. and the pile was engulfed in flames just seconds later. The massive fire kept the crowd warn in the frigid January air and the wind carried the smoke and sparks southeast over Devereux Beach.
