Because the former employee had ordered work-related items for the business in the past, the employee and her boss had opened the package, only to discover that it contained children’s items. The former employee had become upset when he learned that the package had been opened. The woman asked if she could surrender the package at the police station so the former employee could pick it up there instead of at the business. The officer accepted the package and then called its intended recipient and confirmed that all of the items he was expecting were still in the package. The man was satisfied and said he would come by the station to retrieve it.

9:54 a.m. An officer went to speak with a Pleasant Street business owner who had had trouble securing the dead bolt on the front door the night before. The officer inspected the lock and door frame and did not see any damage that appeared malicious. The officer and business owner agreed that the issue was most likely caused by recent freezing temperatures, and the business owner noted she has had a similar issue in the past. The owner also showed the officer a small chip in the wooden frame at the exact height of the rear door’s dead bolt. The officer believed that this, too, was not malicious, as he did not see any markings or damage on the edge of the door opposite of the chipped frame. The officer and business owner agreed that the dead bolt most likely caused the damage while the door was being pulled closed with the bolt partially in the locked position. Nonetheless, the officer advised the business owner to report any future suspicious activity.

The hacker had also made changes to her account on the business social networking site LinkedIn. The officer advised her to take her phone to an Apple Store to have it checked for spyware and also to report the incident to the credit agencies.
