Increased snow emergency parking fines formalized

Today, Gov. Maura Healey signed an act formally establishing increased fines for violators of Marblehead’s snow emergency parking ban. The act, approved at Town Meeting last May, increases fines from $50 to no more than $100 if paid within 21 days and no more than $105 if paid thereafter.

According to the act, the new fines take effect immediately.

Police Chief Dennis King told the Current Wednesday afternoon, “We are in communication with town counsel on the effective date, and what, if any other actions we are required to take before enforcement.”

When a snow emergency is declared, vehicles, including boat trailers, must be removed from the streets to allow for snow removal and ensure road safety. Violators risk ticketing and towing as part of the town’s efforts to maintain clear and treated streets during icy conditions. Residents are encouraged to sign up for CodeRED alerts at marbleheadma.gov to stay informed about snow emergencies.
