Superintendent John Robidoux just told the Current that he has called a half-day for Marblehead Public Schools on Tuesday, due to the extreme heat warning, in effect now through Tuesday at 8 p.m. All students will be released Tuesday at noon. Not all schools have air conditioning, Robidoux said.
The National Weather Service is forecasting “dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 100 degrees.”
The NWS advises people to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air conditioning if possible, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
Fire Chief Jason Gilliland says if any local seniors need a cooling station, call dispatch at 781-631-1212. The Fire Department is planning a summer splash Tuesday at 3:15 p.m. at the Community Center parking lot, when kids can run under the hose.
The Marblehead Arts Association is also offer respite. “We will be open today as a cooling station starting at 10 a.m.
We have cold water and your well behaved pooch is welcome, too,” the MAA posted to Facebook Tuesday morning.
