The Marblehead League of Women Voters is encouraging local residents to join a national movement of marches during President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address Tuesday evening.
The so-called Light For Our Democracy event is “in support of democracy and in opposition to our developing constitutional crisis,” according to a press release.
On Tuesday at 8 p.m., a candlelight procession will leave from Marblehead’s Old Town House, 170 Washington St., and continue to Memorial Park. If people don’t want to walk, they can join at Memorial Park at 8:30 p.m. Participants are asked to bring some kind of light: a cell phone, flashlight or battery-powered candle.
Leagues of Women Voters across the country are hosting Light For Our Democracy gatherings to “demonstrate against the policies and actions being taken by the president, including his dismantling of many governmental positions and agencies.”
