Marblehead boys & girls basketball done for season

Marblehead High School boys and girls basketball teams are done with the season, after they both lost Monday night.

The boys lost to host Archbishop Williams in Braintree in a Division 2 preliminary round game, 52,42.

Marblehead girls lost the Division 2 Round of 32 game to host Reading, 39-20 on Feb. 24. Junior Tess Andriano was Marblehead’s leading scorer with 14 points. Junior Nora Mahan, senior captain Maddie Forbes and junior Samara Dosch scored two apiece.

Senior captain Molly Trahan was the leading scorer for Reading with 15 points. Trahan, a 1,000 point career scorer, usually averages 30 points per game, but the Magicians forced her to do things she’s not accustomed to doing, according to Marblehead coach Paul Moran, and cut her production in half.

The Magicians were also shorthanded going into the game, when senior captain Olivia Goldwater and junior Greta Sachs tried to give it a go in warmups, but their ankle injuries still bothered them to force them to sit the game out.
