BREAKING NEWS: Teachers contract settled, schools set to open Wednesday

6:45 p.m. update: The School Committee’s PR firm just released this statement, “Both the School Committee and the association recognize the stress and hardship caused to our students and families during the school closures and we are committed to ensuring that the reopening of our schools will be a positive experience for our students and school community. Schools will reopen for students at the usual time on Wednesday, Nov. 27, which is an early release day for students. We look forward to welcoming our students back to school and to resuming the important work we are committed to doing.”

The Marblehead teachers strike is over, according to Select Board Chair Erin Noonan. Hundreds of teachers just walked into the Marblehead High School auditorium for a meeting. Cheering coule be heard in the MHS lobby. Teachers confirmed they ratified the new contract. The School Committee is meeting now to ratify.

“All units settled. SC meeting tonight to vote and return to school tomorrow! Allelluia.” Noonan texted the Current. The School Committee is meeting this evening to ratify the deal.

The union is holdng a 7:15 p.m. press conference.
