The lead mediator for the state Department of Labor Relations is in Marblehead this morning trying help the teachers and School Committee reach a contract.
The teachers have been on strike since late Friday. A mediator arrived Saturday and has been working with both sides since then. There has been very little progress. According to the Marblehead Education Association, teachers and the mediator called in the DLR official for help.
Meanwhile, teachers rallied around town this morning, standing at picket lines and walking down Atlantic Avenue with signs and music. They’re holding a rally at Salem State University at 1 p.m.
Yesterday, a judge slapped a $50,000 fine against the teachers. Today’s fine will be $60,000.
