Fire chief advises closing windows/doors; brush fire smoke moves school recess inside

Marblehead Fire Chief Jason Gilliland is advising local residents to keep their windows and doors closed, due to the strong smoky odor from nearby brush fires.

Interim Superintendent John Robidoux has told principals to have indoor recess and cancel any outdoor activities this morning, due to the smoke from brush fires on the North Shore.

Robidoux said he will assess later whether to cancel after-school sports.

Meanwhile, the Marblehead Public Health Department has this advice: “We recommend that people pay attention to air quality by following purpleair.com real time map,” said Health Dir. Andrew Petty. “We have several meters in the area. Once you know the reading for your area it will also provide guidance.”
