Abbot Public Library Executive Director Kimberly Grad submitted the following details behind the library’s move to the Eveleth School to make way for its multi-million dollar renovation.

In preparation for the move to the Eveleth School, 3 Brook Road, Abbot Public Library will close at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10. The former elementary will be the library’s temporary space during the renovation of its Pleasant Street location.

“It was important to us to find a suitable space to house the interim library so we could continue to provide the town of Marblehead with essential library services while we undertake the critical infrastructure updates and improvements at Abbot Public Library,” Gary Amberik, chair of the Abbot Public Library Board of Trustees. “We are grateful to the Marblehead School Committee for allowing us to utilize the Eveleth School.”

Abbot Public Library Executive Director Kimberly Grad said the Eveleth School will be familiar to many people in the community. Classrooms will be repurposed for reference and technical support, fiction and nonfiction collections, spaces for teens and children, quiet reading areas and a room for public programs.

“We look forward to welcoming the community of Marblehead to this temporary library space,” she said.

The library will be closed from mid-September through mid-October to allow the staff time to physically relocate materials and furnishings from one building to the other. All virtual services like databases, Libby, and Hoopla, will still be available with a library card.
