Next ‘Conversation on Race’

The Marblehead Racial Justice Team will host its next “Conversations on Race” event. This month’s program is entitled “Black Mothers and Babies of Color at Risk: It’s Not Due to Economics.”

The session will explore how the country’s healthcare system is failing women and their babies at an alarming rate and disproportionately so for women of color. The U.S. has the highest rate of maternal mortality among developed nations. Black women are almost three times more likely to die during or after childbirth than their white counterparts, and Black infants are 2.4 times more likely to die within the first year of life as white infants, according to the MRJT.
