12:58 p.m. An officer was dispatched to Atlantic Avenue to take a report of a past crash at Shubie’s. The owner explained that at around 5 p.m. Oct. 10, a woman had mistakenly stepped on the accelerator and crashed into the back side of the store, damaging a 5-foot-by-5-foot area of the back side of the store. Inside, there was also damage to the walk-in beer refrigerator. The driver had already provided her information, and they were in contact. He just wanted the accident documented for insurance purposes.

2:16 p.m. An officer spoke in the police station lobby with a man whose wife had received a letter, allegedly from a Panama City bank, which stated that the man had passed away and that she needed to claim nearly $19,000 in insurance policy proceeds. The man said they knew the letter was a scam, as neither he nor his wife had ever contacted the bank. He added that he had been monitoring his bank accounts and had not lost any money. He was not particularly concerned about the letter but just wanted the incident documented.

2:27 p.m. An officer took a report in the police station lobby from a woman whose vehicle had been damaged by an exposed water pipe that she said a Salem construction company had not marked near Barnard and Prospect streets. A bolt on the exposed pipe had popped her tire. She had been assisted by officers working detail at the construction site, and Precision Motor Werks nearby had been able to give her a spare tire. She just wanted the accident documented for insurance purposes, adding that she was still waiting to hear back from the construction company.

He suspected that the striking boats were a Grady White center console, which had detached from its mooring and drifted through the harbor before becoming entangled with a green sailboat on the mooring next to the man’s boat. The man just wanted the damage documented for insurance purposes.
